    Presentation

The Bureau of Theoretical and Applied Economics (Bureau d'économie théorique et appliquée – Beta) is a joint research unit (UMR 7522) of the University of Strasbourg, the Université de Lorraine, the CNRS, INRAE, AgroParisTech and the Université de Haute-Alsace. In 2024, it was the only economics and management joint research unit in the Grand Est region. It is based at three sites in Nancy and Strasbourg (and to a lesser extent in Metz and Mulhouse). The laboratory was founded in 1972 at the University of Strasbourg and has been associated with the CNRS since 1985, with the Université de Lorraine since 2005 and with INRAE since 2018. It covers a wide range of activities, involving both fundamental aspects and applications of research in economics and management.

It is made up of over 200 researchers (professors, research directors, senior lecturers, research fellows, engineers and technicians, doctoral students, etc.), a dozen administrative support staff, and around fifty visiting researchers.
